About our Wallingford clinic
Our Wallingford clinic is the head office and flagship home of Well Mind People. Set in the heart of this historic market town on the River Thames, the clinic has three private therapy rooms designed to feel calm, welcoming and completely confidential. It is where our clinical leadership is based, and it brings together an experienced, multidisciplinary team under one roof so that people across South Oxfordshire can access high quality mental health care close to home.
Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, low mood, trauma, a relationship difficulty or a specific diagnosis, the aim is the same. We want you to feel understood from the first conversation, and to receive treatment that is grounded in the best available evidence and delivered by properly qualified, regulated professionals.
Where to Find Us
You will find the clinic at Ptolemy House, Reading Road, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, OX10 9DN. Reading Road is one of the main routes into the town centre, so the clinic is straightforward to reach by car and on foot, with local parking close by and regular bus links into Wallingford.
Wallingford does not have its own railway station. The nearest mainline station is Cholsey, roughly three miles away, which sits on the line between Reading and Oxford and connects onward to London Paddington. This central position means the clinic is also convenient for people travelling in from Cholsey, Crowmarsh Gifford, Benson, Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Didcot, Berinsfield and Watlington, as well as from Oxford, Reading, Abingdon and Henley-on-Thames.
If travelling to an in person appointment is difficult, every one of our services is also available through secure online therapy, so you can be seen by the same clinicians from home.
Services Available at the Wallingford Clinic
As our flagship location, Wallingford offers the full range of psychological care provided by the practice. Each service links through to a dedicated page where you can read more about how it works and who it helps.
Our core talking therapies are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a structured, evidence based approach for a wide range of difficulties, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), which focuses on managing intense emotions and building coping skills, and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma and distressing memories.
Alongside these, the clinic provides clinical psychology, health psychology, and full psychological assessment and treatment to help clarify what is going on and agree the right plan of care. We also offer relationship and couples therapy and family therapy, so that partners and families can be supported together as well as individually.
Whether you are looking for therapy in Wallingford itself or travelling in from the surrounding South Oxfordshire villages, you can be seen in person at the clinic or through online therapy, whichever suits you best.

What We Help With
People come to the Wallingford clinic for many different reasons, and there is no difficulty too big or too small to bring to a first appointment. Common areas we support include anxiety, depression and low mood, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
We also work with people experiencing childhood trauma, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem and confidence issues, and stress and burnout. Other areas include relationship difficulties and family conflict, phobias and avoidance behaviours, sleep difficulties and insomnia, work-related stress and perfectionism, and adjustment to significant life events or health conditions. For children and young people, we also help with behavioural and school-related problems.
If you are struggling with self-harm or suicidal thoughts, we can help, and it is important to know where to turn if things feel urgent. Please see the note on getting urgent help further down this page.
Autism, ADHD and Neurodiversity Support in Wallingford
At the Wallingford clinic we offer neurodiversity-affirming support for children, teenagers and adults who are, or may be, autistic or have ADHD, along with guidance for parents, partners and families.
Our focus here is on support rather than labels. A neurodiversity-affirming approach starts from the understanding that there is no single right way for a brain to work. Rather than trying to make someone appear more typical, we look at how a person’s environment, relationships and everyday demands can be adapted so they feel more comfortable, working with each person’s strengths as well as the things they find harder. You do not need a formal autism or ADHD diagnosis to be seen.
For children and teenagers, this can mean help with anxiety, emotional regulation, friendships, self-esteem and school-related difficulties, along with practical guidance for parents who want to understand and support them. For adults, people come to us whether they already have a diagnosis, are waiting for an assessment, or are simply exploring whether they may be neurodivergent, and we can help with anxiety, low mood, overwhelm and burnout, emotional regulation, self-esteem, relationships and the demands of work.
Please note that we do not currently provide autism or ADHD diagnostic assessments ourselves. If a formal assessment is what you are looking for, we can point you towards trusted specialist partners who provide them. You can read more on our neurodiversity support page.
Who We Help
Meet the Wallingford Team
Trust matters in mental health care, and we believe you should know exactly who you will be working with and how they are qualified. Our clinicians are registered with the relevant professional bodies, including the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). You can read every clinician’s full profile on our team page.
The clinic is led by Sara Whammond, our Clinical Director and a Registered Mental Health Nurse who practises as a CBT, DBT and EMDR therapist. Clinicians who see clients at, or through, the Wallingford flagship include Chioma Dafikpaku, a CBT therapist and Registered Mental Health Nurse; Dr Ifeoma Egbuniwe, a Chartered Psychologist and CBT therapist; and Dr Annie Fabulet, a Counselling Psychologist who works with couples and families.
Families with younger clients can be seen by Rhona Edwards, a CBT therapist for children and young people, while Kate Polkinghorne offers CBT and EMDR. Further clinical and counselling psychology input is available from colleagues including Dr Mary-Jane Marffy and Shwetha Shivprasad. You can read every clinician’s credentials on the team page.
Why People Choose Our Wallingford Clinic
We are a specialist private practice, not a general counselling service, and that focus shows in how we work. Assessment comes first, so that the therapy or treatment you receive is matched to what is actually going on rather than a one size fits all approach. Because the team is multidisciplinary, we can match you with the right clinician and approach from the start, and adjust as your needs change, without you having to start again somewhere new.
Every clinician holds recognised professional registration and works within the ethical and clinical standards set by their regulator. We use therapies with a strong evidence base, such as those recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for conditions like anxiety, depression, OCD and PTSD, and we are honest about what a given approach can and cannot do. You can read more about how we work on our about us page and see what previous clients have said on our testimonials page.
